The alignment of a tramway must be chosen after a detailed analysis. Many factors must be considered including topography, land ownership, right of way, utilities, existing structures, visual impact, and terminal location alternatives. The proper alignment is often a compromise between these and other factors. Some factors may be critical in that they cannot be overcome. Others are simply influencing factors that are taken into consideration before the final alignment is selected |

| Tramway Engineering can assist in highlighting those factors that are critical as opposed to being influencing. Once all of the factors are taken into account, the preferred alignment can be determined. |
