Maintenance Program Development Tramways are complicated electro/mechanical machines. Imagine machine that often exceed one mile one in length that consist hundreds of rotating parts that are controlled by a computer with hundreds of inputs. The challenge of maintaining these complicated machines cannot be underestimated. These are not off-the-shelf production models. The biggest challenge often comes after the machine is put into public service, the manufacturer's installers leave, the new maintenance staff is just starting to understand the complexity of the machine and the lift breaks down when fully loaded. The challenge is to locate, educate and train a qualified maintenance crew as quickly as possible. Once a tramway has been in operation for the first 6 months, maintenance starts to become routine. The challenge is to make the transition. |
